Session Disconnected Unexpectedly
If your phpMyAdmin or Adminer session dropped without warning, here are the most likely causes.
1. Session Timed Out
This is the most common reason. DBEverywhere enforces session timeouts based on your plan:
| Plan | Session Timeout |
|---|---|
| Free | 15 minutes |
| Paid | 8 hours |
The timer counts from the moment you connected, whether or not you were active. A banner appears in the session bar shortly before the end, and at zero you're returned to the dashboard.
See Session Timeouts Explained for full details.
2. Your Database Closed the Connection
Your database server may have dropped the connection on its end. Common reasons:
- Database restart — if your provider performed maintenance or you restarted the database, all active connections are dropped.
- Database
wait_timeout— MySQL and MariaDB have await_timeoutsetting (default 8 hours) that closes idle connections. If the phpMyAdmin session was idle for long enough, the database itself may have closed it. - Connection limits — if your database hit its maximum connection limit, it may have dropped older connections to make room.
3. Network Interruption
A temporary network issue between DBEverywhere's server and your database can drop the connection. This is more common with databases hosted in regions far from DBEverywhere's server or with providers that have intermittent connectivity.
What to Do
- Go back to your dashboard.
- If the old session is still listed, click End Session to clean it up.
- Start a new connection.
Your database is unaffected — a disconnected session only means the browser session ended, not that anything happened to your data.
If It Keeps Happening
- Check your database's connection timeout settings —
wait_timeoutin MySQL,idle_in_transaction_session_timeoutin PostgreSQL. - Check if your database provider is doing maintenance — most providers show maintenance windows in their dashboard.
- Upgrade to the paid plan if you're on free — 15-minute sessions are short enough that interruptions feel frequent, and paid sessions run for 8 hours.
