Adminer

When Does DBEverywhere Use Adminer vs phpMyAdmin?

DBEverywhere uses two database management tools: phpMyAdmin and Adminer. You don't choose between them — DBEverywhere selects the right one automatically based on the database type you pick on the connection form.

The Routing Rules

Database Type Tool Used
MySQL phpMyAdmin
MariaDB phpMyAdmin
PostgreSQL Adminer
SQLite Adminer
Microsoft SQL Server Adminer
Oracle Adminer
MongoDB Adminer

Why Two Tools?

phpMyAdmin is the gold standard for MySQL and MariaDB administration. It has deeper MySQL-specific features — things like MySQL user management, detailed server status, query profiling, and MySQL-specific export options. For MySQL and MariaDB, it's the better tool.

Adminer supports multiple database engines in a single interface. It's the only practical option for PostgreSQL, SQLite, MS SQL, Oracle, and MongoDB through a web UI. It's lightweight, fast, and covers all the essentials: browsing data, running queries, managing tables, and importing/exporting.

Both Are Full-Featured

Neither tool is a compromise. phpMyAdmin has been in active development since 1998 and is used on millions of servers. Adminer is a production-grade tool used widely in development and production environments. Whichever tool DBEverywhere routes you to, you'll have everything you need to manage your database.

Can I Choose Which Tool to Use?

No. The tool selection is automatic and based on your database type. MySQL and MariaDB always go through phpMyAdmin. All other engines go through Adminer. This keeps things simple and ensures you always get the best tool for your database.
