Connecting to PostgreSQL with DBEverywhere
DBEverywhere uses Adminer for PostgreSQL connections. Here's how to connect and what to expect.
How to Connect
- Go to the connection form from your dashboard.
- Select PostgreSQL as the database type.
- Enter your connection details:
- Host: your PostgreSQL server hostname (e.g.,
db-postgresql-nyc1-12345-do-user-abc.db.ondigitalocean.com) - Port:
5432(the default PostgreSQL port) - Username: your PostgreSQL user
- Password: your PostgreSQL password
- Database name: the specific database to connect to
- Click Connect.
DBEverywhere routes you into Adminer, where you can browse schemas, run queries, manage tables, and import/export data.
SSL Connections
DBEverywhere connects to PostgreSQL with SSL where the server supports it. Most managed PostgreSQL providers (DigitalOcean, AWS RDS, Supabase, Neon, etc.) have SSL enabled by default, so this should work automatically.
Firewall / IP Whitelisting
Before connecting, make sure DBEverywhere's IP address is allowed to reach your PostgreSQL server.
For managed PostgreSQL providers, this is usually a "trusted sources" or "allowed IPs" setting in the provider's control panel.
For self-hosted PostgreSQL, you'll need to:
- Edit
pg_hba.confto add a line allowing connections from DBEverywhere's IP:host all all YOUR_DBEVERYWHERE_IP/32 md5 - Make sure
listen_addressesinpostgresql.confis set to'*'or includes your server's public IP (not justlocalhost). - Open port 5432 in your firewall (e.g.,
ufw allow from YOUR_DBEVERYWHERE_IP to any port 5432). - Reload PostgreSQL:
sudo systemctl reload postgresql.
See How to Whitelist DBEverywhere's IP Address for the current IP and provider-specific instructions.
What You Can Do in Adminer
Once connected, Adminer gives you full access to your PostgreSQL database:
- Browse and edit table data
- Run SQL queries
- View and manage schemas, tables, views, sequences, and functions
- Import and export data (SQL, CSV)
- Manage users and privileges
